Mixed-Studios specializes in visual effects, special effects design, and 2d animation. The goal is to deliver media to the professional and common creator. Started in 2006, by Keenan Mitchell, Mixed-Studios has seen many changes with more to come.
History:
In 2005, in a small basement office in Free Union, Virginia, a seventh-grade Keenan Mitchell created Mixed-Studios. Using his basic knowledge of Flash animation along with a budding artistic talent to guide him, Keenan began releasing his short animations on Newgrounds.com, under the name Mixed-Studios. Soon a rudimentary website was created and Keenan was expanding his focus to encompass not only animation, but filmmaking and visual effects as well. By 2008, Mixed-Studios was an independently-functioning website that served as a freelance market for all of Keenan's visual talents.
In 2010, Alex Wilson, a longtime friend and associate of Mixed-Studios teamed up with Keenan, who had been contracted to create a music video for the Boston post-rock band Irepress. The nature of the video, which included a thorough showcase of Keenan's visual effects talents, was pivotal in catching the eyes of the Youtube community at large. It was not long before Keenan's Mixed-Studios account was officially recognized as a Youtube partner, which further inspired Keenan to create and expand the site.
In October of 2011, however, the previously strictly one-man dynamic to Mixed-Studios changed, as if out of nowhere. Keenan was approached by his long-time best friend Lucas McQueen with an offer of his services as a writer, musician, and filmmaker. Preliminary work was done on a website incorporating both Keenan and Lucas' sections of the Studio, and it was decided swiftly; Mixed-Studios was now a freelance partnership.
Showcasing prowess not only in videography, photography, and other visual arts; but also music and written expression as well, Mixed-Studios became an unstoppable drive in the minds of Lucas and Keenan. Moving back to their hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia, they worked ceaselessly on new content. Chance Dickerson, a regional-local hip-hop icon, contacted Mixed-Studios after performing with Lucas at a Charlottesville rap show; with the offer of creating his first music video. This initial business agreement gave rise to not only a great friendship, but an affiliation between Chance and Mixed-Studios on a local scale. Look for the video in question, "Runnin' Things" in March of 2012, with the release of Chance's first full-length EP produced by Ocean Lab Discoveries to follow in the coming months.
As this is the "About Page" for an eternally-changing, innovative freelance site, you can expect to see many changes here as Mixed-Studios as a whole evolves further. However, there has been one constant since 2005, a single statement of intent.
It is our mission to deliver media to the professional and the common creator alike. We are Mixed-Studios, and we will work for you.
